Lawrence artist to lead student mural project for Free State High
Local artist Wayne Wildcat and his wife team with Lawrence High and Central Junior High students to research design and paint a historical mural to hang at Lawrence Free State High School. The project explores Lawrence’s role in Kansas history with Civil War research, debates on figures, and potential multiple paintings. Funding aims include a Rockefeller Foundation grant of 10 000 to 50 000 dollars plus Kansas Arts Commission support and district backing. The work could begin mid January with completion slated for next fall prior to Free State’s opening.
