Court orders release of Kissinger telephone transcripts

U S District Judge John Lewis Smith Jr ruled that transcripts of Henry Kissinger calls during Ford and Nixon administrations are public property. The recordings, created by government staff on government time, belong to the Department of State, despite Kissinger's contention they were private.

Kissinger Transcripts Placed in Public Domain by Smith Ruling

In a nine page order Smith held that Kissinger by State Department policy placed transcripts in the public domain. Officials note monitoring of calls was banned except for essential business. During Ford's final days Kissinger gave notes and other papers to the Library of Congress with access limited to himself or appointees for 25 years or until five years after death.

Police await lab results on recovered car in Lawrence slaying

Investigators sought three people for questioning after the Norwood homicide in East Lawrence. A 1977 Chevrolet Caprice, stolen in November near Denver, was found in Kansas City on Wednesday, with tire-track tests to compare to evidence near the murder scene.
