Rural Kansas hospital drains staff as COVID-19 bites hard
Rush County Memorial Hospital in La Crosse faces a critical staff shortage as COVID-19 sickens nurses and physicians. A radiology tech slept in an RV after co workers fell ill while a doctor and PA tested positive, leaving the facility briefly without prescriptions or patient care oversight. The hospital remains full and cannot divert patients due to nearby centers being overwhelmed, illustrating rural America’s dire medical crunch with rising daily deaths.
