Midshipman acquitted of manslaughter in fatal collision
Navy midshipman Jason Jones, 19, was acquitted of vehicular manslaughter after a Maryland circuit court found insufficient proof he was speeding when his car struck another vehicle, killing John and Carole Hall and their two children on the Capital Beltway. He was fined 500 dollars for negligent driving. A Powerball drawing in Des Moines produced no jackpot winners. The estimated 14 million dollar prize goes to Saturday. Two tickets matching five numbers but missing the Powerball won 100 000 dollars each in Indiana and Kansas.

Organic food rules come from USDA ahead of Glickman exit
USDA will publish national standards for organic foods clarifying they are not inherently safer or more nutritious than conventional products. Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman says the rules will replace a patchwork of state standards and aim to reassure both domestic and international markets. The plan includes a proposed USDA Certified Organic seal, with possible disclaimers to counter consumer misperceptions about safety or quality.
