Leavenworth Official Dies of Heart Attack

Carl M. Kirmayer 79 and former Leavenworth mayor and city commissioner died last night of an apparent heart attack. Elected to the Board of City Commissioners in 1939, he was soon chosen mayor the same year. A former menswear businessman and bank teller, he attended the University of Kansas where he pitched for the baseball team. He is survived by his wife Helen Maria Kirmayer.

Four New Units Are Proposed As School Aid

Lawrence Superintendent Carl Knox told the Board of Education that four classrooms may be needed at Hillcrest School next fall if Hillcrest and Pinckney districts are redrawn to relieve enrollment at Pinckney. He noted boundary issues and space limits, and suggested delaying the Schwegler addition. The board also approved a $1,260 vehicle insurance policy, set the 1965-66 calendar, and elected and resigned several staff.
