Marines and Allies Fight Through Snow and Roadblocks
American units from the Fifth and Seventh Marine Regiments and the 31st and 32nd Infantry Regiments of the Seventh Division press along a rugged road south of Koto. They face mortar fire, gasoline bombs, and explosives from Chinese forces as air strikes scorch surrounding hills. Third Division infantry push from Hamhung to clear the road, halting 15 road miles south of Koto amid heavy fighting. UN forces report evacuations near Hyesanjin and Chongjin as Chinese forces concentrate on the east flank. British brigades reposition as Peiping reports Pyongyang occupied by Chinese and Red Korea troops. Far East air command targets supply centers with B-29 strikes. Diphtheria rates in Japan fall significantly since occupation.

Budget Rise Driven by Time Money and Sponsorships
The university faces budget growth from limited time and funds, plus increased sponsorships. State service salaries get a dedicated appropriation for 1951-53, with expansions planned and retirements and merit raises funded though living costs remain unsettled. University salary needs may drop as full-time teachers decline, while new or expanded state services appear in the plan.
