Defense plan boosts aircraft output to 40 000 yearly
Washington reports that using automobile factories to build military aircraft could raise production to 40 000 planes a year by 1942. Four new plants west of the Mississippi will assemble finished aircraft from car-made parts, with Kansas City and Omaha hosting two 2 400-a-year two ego bombers and two 1 200-a-year four-motor bombers. The plan includes Tulsa under construction and aims for mass production in about 15 months.
