Corrections Academy Proposal Aims to Modernize Prisons
Attorney General John N. Mitchell announces a National Corrections Academy to train personnel and advance research. President Nixon urges reform, calling for education rehabilitation and hope as keys to freedom. The plan includes federal state local cooperation and two new clearinghouse projects for justice architecture and correctional education. About 350 corrections specialists attend the conference. Mitchell also proposes studying deferment of some prosecutions to community oriented corrections and pushes for minority hiring across federal facilities.
