City backs away from Abe and Jake's purchase plan
Lawrence officials ended four month negotiations to buy Abe and Jake's Landing east of City Hall. The city would have held ownership of the building already under City Hall land, but halted the deal to consolidate Planning and Development Services in a renovated space. The 19th century building is leased to Mike Elwell through 2087 for events, with improvements valued around two million dollars.
