Warmer Readings Predicted After Cold Lawrence Night

Cold snaps gripped Lawrence with overnight lows near 4 degrees downtown and a record low for the date of 68 degrees all time. Forecasts from the Weather Bureau in Topeka expect warmer readings today and Sunday with highs in the low 50s and mid 30s and a low near 15 degrees.

Birth Defects Center Set At KU Medical Center

A $25,000 National March of Dimes grant funds a new birth defects treatment center at the Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City. Dr. C Arden Miller will lead the center, which starts Jan 1 in the pediatric outpatient clinic to provide evaluation, rapid physician communication, and long term follow up for children with birth defects.

Weber Crowned Queen of KU Military Ball in 1964

Carol Jo Weber of Raytown Missouri, a Kansas University junior, was crowned queen of the 1964 KU military ball sponsored by Scabbard and Blade. She led six finalists including Tina Barnes and Jane Speirs, with judges from KU leadership and athletics. The event drew several hundred couples at the Kansas Union as The Notables played.
