FBI to Bat for Marshall Field
Washington reports the final phase of the anti-trust suit against the Associated Press opens in the Supreme Court. AP argues admission of all applicants would violate press freedom, while the government seeks to prevent AP from becoming a public utility and to curb by-laws that block membership for competitive reasons. A 3-hour hearing is set as the case centers on the Sun of Chicago and Marshall Field. FBI agents interview AP members nationwide over the Sun’s membership bid.
