Jailhouse informant links defendant to city murder
Testimony in a Douglas County murder trial centered on Ed Mason, a jailhouse informant who said Damon McCray confessed to a shooting that killed Onzie Branch in Topeka. Mason, a family friend of McCray, described multi day discussions in jail while prosecutors and defense attorneys argued over the credibility and implications of his past crimes. The trial, pairing McCray with first degree murder charges, resumes with District Attorney Christine Kenney Tonkovich overseeing the case.
