The 27th annual Lawrence Festival of Trees opens at Liberty Hall with nearly 60 decorated trees on view from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. A live tree auction is tonight at 7 p.m. with a wreath silent auction ending at 8:30. Donations are suggested at 3 dollars. Trees feature varied themes from Kansas Jayhawks and aquatic life to Day of the Dead and include inventive materials. Donors include families, clubs and organizations such as the Lawrence High Geography Club and Lawrence Women's Network. Auctioned trees have ranged from 100 dollars to several thousand, benefiting The Shelter Inc. which reported a net profit over 50 thousand dollars last year.
