Widow urges stand against Phelps at soldier funeral
In Topeka more than 500 veterans and supporters gathered along a downtown avenue to back Sgt. Dominic Sacco’s family and oppose Fred Phelps protests at the funeral. Sacco, 32, from Albany, NY, died Nov. 20 in Iraq. Two other soldiers from his unit also died recently. Brandy Sacco urged a turnout, saying her husband supports this stand. Police kept the opposing groups apart as vehicles blocked streets and honked in front of the funeral home.
