Acquitted driver admits guilt in fatal collision case
Robert T. Howell, 20, acknowledged he was the driver in a crash that killed Pamela R. Elmer, 18, after Wyandotte County Judge Bill Robinson directed a verdict of acquittal on aggravated vehicular homicide. The police van hit Elmer’s car at about 60 mph. Howell said he felt “real good” about the acquittal and blamed the DA for failing to prove his guilt. Elmer’s parents condemned the outcome as tragic and unjust.

Kansas City Airport to Add Taller Control Tower by 1996
The FAA will demolish the current Kansas City International Tower and build a 257 foot tower to handle rising air traffic. Estimated cost is 8 to 10 million dollars with openings planned after the third runway starts next year. FAA expects 35 to 40 new controllers over five years funded by federal taxes and an existing airport improvement tax. A two story building will accompany the tower for radar and offices. Riverboat gambling is on the North Kansas City ballot for February 2 with a 120 acre site near Rock Creek proposed for a dock marina and nine hole course, amid competition from other riverfront towns.
