Reform Plan Ready on Mutual Fund Operations
The SEC released a 346 page plan proposing a 5 percent cap on mutual fund sales charges, lower advisory fees, and a ban on front-end contract plans that could siphon off up to half the first year’s investment in commissions. Industry groups opposed the front-end plan while noting mixed support for other recommendations. If enacted, changes would be the first to the Investment Company Act since 1940 and could save investors millions annually according to commission sources.
