Dead Patrolman Bryant Dies After Kansas City Shootout
W D Bryant 29 a Kansas City patrolman died in hospital from a Friday night shooting by an unidentified negro bandit. He had just been promoted to class A patrolman for bravery in the confrontation. The assailant was later killed by other officers. Bryant was the son of A C Bryant longtime Lawrence resident and a member of the Christian church.

Fires Sweep Through City Homes In Four Alarms
Firefighters battled four alarms from 3 13 AM with blazes at 924 Mississippi Street and 315 Mississippi Street. The largest loss, about 400, occurred at a Stroud home as smoke from a furnace caused a basement fire. Additional fires on New Hampshire Street and a taxi fire on a bridge caused minor damage.

Transfusion Saves Boy After Hunting Accident
Charles P Simon 19 was shot in the left chest while hunting near Midland. His uncle J J Simon donated a quart of blood to save his life during a late night transfusion at Simmons hospital. Teammate Henry Henick 16 witnessed the accident and reported the gun discharged against a rock as they climbed a fence. The boy remained in serious but improving condition the following morning.

Confectionery Proprietor Convicted in Liquor Case
Pete Coutrakon of the Toston confectionery was convicted on two liquor charges after withdrawing a prior guilty plea. A $300 fine and 120 day jail term were imposed by Judge Stewart following evidence of liquor found at the shop and a marked money sale. Coutrakon filed an appeal bond after the trial.
