Value of Nixon papers sparks trial over worth
The Nixon estate and government face a six week trial over the value of 42 million pages 3700 hours of tapes and photos seized after Nixon resigned. Appraiser Payne says minor notes are 100 a page while extensive comments exceed 1500 a page with a 19000 valuation for six drafts. The dispute stems from the 1974 seizure under a law that placed documents in the National Archives while tapes are edited for personal content.
