Reinhart resigns as county commissioner amid graft charges
James A. Reinhart of Lahette County resigns after a demand by Attorney General Griffith. He faced accusations he used office to secure insurance profits for county officials and employees, sought inflated salaries, and accepted payoffs for purchases. Arthur Phelps, county superintendent, alleged bribery tied to a $60,000 policy and other misuses. The three commissioners, all Democrats, faced removal actions and possible replacement by a Democrat from the district.
