Residence Burns On De Witte Farm
The farm home of Mr and Mrs Paris De Witte two miles west of Lawrence burned to the ground around midnight last night. All but a few personal belongings were lost. The couple and their son in law Roy Orr are staying with the latter’s family south of the farm. A motorist traveling from Kansas City to Topeka reported the blaze. The De Witte couple escaped unharmed. The cause is believed to be a defective flue likely ignited by an unused chimney over the summer and spread rapidly through the house.
