Colyer argues aid should focus on Syrians in region rather than resettlement
In interviews at the Statehouse, Dr. Colyer, a Johnson County plastic surgeon and International Medical Corps volunteer, says the real problem is helping Syrians in Syria and neighboring countries. He notes four million refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, and Turkey and argues direct humanitarian aid near the border outweighs resettling 10,000 refugees. He cites ISIS threats and supports proper clearance for refugees while urging more aid to Syrians affected by the war.

City Commission weighs sales tax exemption for Pachamamas project
The development group seeks roughly 300000 in incentives and a sales tax exemption on construction materials. Public Incentives Review Board recommended approval in August, but tonight’s City Commission meeting will test policy adherence and potential changes to incentives. Local IRB use has saved about 9.5 million in sales taxes since 2010, with projects totaling around 212 million. City Hall meets at 5:45 p.m. at 6 E Sixth St to discuss the policy and pipeline projects.
