Santa Fe Railway officials announced discontinuation of passenger trains 5 and 6 serving Lawrence effective January 7. Trains run 9:10 a.m. southbound and 8:15 p.m. northbound from Kansas City to Dallas. Official said year’s losses near 1.13 million dollars and traffic has fallen since 1955 from 139,249 passengers to 74,772 in the first nine months of 1959.
