Violent unrest spills from Jerusalem to Paris as Arabs plan a three day general strike over the UN partition decision. Paris sees widespread walkouts and police clashes with miners amid government efforts to curb strikes and restore services.
Lin calls top aides at Lake Success to study Palestine partition after the general assembly decision. Officials plan to report on disorders in the Holy Land and to select the chief mission and staff for the new five nation Palestine commission.
In Damascus on December 1 business ground to a near halt as demonstrations against Palestine rage on. Rioters stoned the American legation, toppled the U S flag, and set two automobiles ablaze outside the building. Windows and shutters were damaged as clashes continued.
Washington reports indicate a House committee trimmed a large Western aid package by about 23 million dollars while preserving 40.9 million for China. Senate action aims to fast track emergency aid, with President Truman urging swift decisions to support morale in Western Europe. An earth tremor near Poplar Bluff Missouri disturbed residents at 2 41 am with no damage reported.

John Light and his wife from Corpus Christi Texas traveled in a homemade covered wagon through Hays Kansas retracing a 500 journey from Dayton Washington. They aim to cover about 10000 miles at roughly 30 miles daily to reach their home garden and continue carpentry work. Light suffered bronchitis in Washington climate and chose to trek home via Kate and Ike their two mules.
A basement gambling game at King's Cab Co on New Jersey Street was busted by city police at 2:90 yesterday morning. Eleven of twelve arrested were fined a total of £230. Garfield King, owner, was not fined and released on a $550 bond. Others faced fines and jail time for liquor charges and gambling, with several defendants listed by street addresses and names.
In Winfield Kansas University debaters dominated the seven state tournament ending Saturday. KU claimed the top honors in men senior and junior college divisions with the freshman squad winning all debates. Individuals named include Herbert Coles Aldo Allotti Edward Stoellenwerck and Ernest Friesen along with Kent Shearer Steve Mills Fred Cross and Lee Reiff. Nineteen colleges competed from across the region.
Jayhawker football players travel from Nogales to Tucson after a 54 to 28 win over Arizona. The squad toured Old Mexico on two buses then returned toward Lawrence with few injuries and plans to resume practice for the Orange Bowl at Georgia Tech on New Year’s Day.
University of Kansas students flood the athletic office for Orange Bowl tickets as Kansas eyes a major New Year’s game. Norris Falkenstein and Tuceon officials prepare tentative lists while fans plan travel by car, air, and charter flights from Lawrence and Miami.
Hall Brothers Inc closes its 739 Massachusetts street plant in Lawrence and opens a typing unit at 91674 Massachusetts street employing about 20 people. Supervising manager Lyne Bauer says seals department will operate at the Leavenworth branch. Most fixtures moved to Kansas City. Miller and Weakley furniture stores relocate to 739 and 729 Massachusetts street.
