Eleven Injured As Santa Fe Derails Near Lampasas Texas
A Santa Fe passenger train derailed about 3 am twelve miles west of Lampasas Texas. Eleven injured were hospitalized with non life threatening wounds and most victims were Texans. The train had about 49 passengers and three sleepers left the rails but did not overturn. An Oakland California passenger was the only non Texan among the injured. The engine and several cars stayed on track and continued to Temple. A Kansas basketball game announcement followed in the same column.

Lawrence Among Kansas Cities For Army Laboratory Site
Lawrence is one of six Kansas towns named for a federal Army Quartermaster research laboratory with an $11 million budget. Overall 278 locations in 40 states were considered, including Wichita Kansas City Topeka Leavenworth and Junction City. 55 Die In Plane Crash In Egypt
Cairo August 31 55 persons including 23 Americans aboard a Transworld Airline Constellation were killed when the aircraft crashed north of Cairo. No survivors were found among 48 passengers and seven crew. The wreck left only a small section intact and charred bodies hindered IDs. Crew included Capt Walton B Webb and others. Lawrence to get operator toll dialing Saturday
Lawrence telephone users will start the first phase of two new long distance services on Saturday September 2. Southwestern Bell manager Richard Ayres said the system called operator toll dialing will allow direct calls via Topeka and later through Kansas City to other points in the United States. James Wallace enlists in air force after Canada trip
James Wallace 17 of Kansas Street recently completed a two week tour of Canada as a guest of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Kansas. He enlisted in the air force yesterday and will travel to Kansas City for exams and processing before training in Texas. He aims for West Point but his appointment depends on the outcome of his service. Wallace was one of 12 Kansas youths awarded the Operation Good Turn trip for their essay on Canada and United States relations.
