Madison and White paid tribute to the Kansas guest in Osawatomie. The ceremony reflected respect and recognition, with local officials and attendees noting the guest’s contributions to the community.
At Osawatomie Kansas on August 31 Theodore Roosevelt spoke to a large crowd after a private briefing with Gov Tubbs. William Allen White praised Roosevelt while Henry Allen recalled John Brown as Kansas civilization. Roosevelt toured the state hospital for the insane and reviewed a military parade before dedicating the Osawatomie battle site.
Kansas City August 31 reports show progress toward settling differences between miners and operators in the southwest. Arkansas and Oklahoma committees said progress is rapid. Missouri district conference delayed until this morning. T. L. Lewis expected tonight with James Elliott to draft contracts, advised by district committees.
Chicago August 31 James Tea body statistician for the Santa Fe system testified at the Interstate Commerce Commission hearing that the proposed freight rate advance would have little effect. He said even if adopted for a year, the old rates would largely hold.
General Manager A G Wells of the coast lines and Superintendent J R Hitchcock left San Bernardino for Topeka to attend the funeral of James E Hurley, late Santa Fe eastern lines chief. The funeral will be held soon with attendees from across the system. Wells and Hitchcock plan extended eastern travels after the services.

Theodore Roosevelt arrives by special train tonight at 6 o clock in Lawrence. Prominent citizens will meet him at the depot and a parade will carry him to the fountain corner of Warren and New Hampshire streets where Chancellor Strong and Mayor Bishop will speak before Governor Stubbs introduces Roosevelt. The program includes prayer, addresses by Strong and Roosevelt, a presentation, and a reception at the Governor's home afterward, with a Sunday school procession lining the route.
Douglas county members plan to attend the state convention of the Anti Horse Thief Association in Hutchinson from October 18 to 20.
