Canopy project bid process sparked City Commission review
McGuire said the city failed to secure authorization for an alternative delivery method after canceling the canopy project bid. The project on the 800 block of Massachusetts Street requires sidewalk and storm sewer work and canopy removal, with BA Green Construction as the lone bidder. The city will rebid and seek Commission approval before proceeding, due to safety and storm water issues linked to the canopy.

Maier Convicted In 2016 Gun Threats And Attack
A jury in July found Maier guilty of aggravated assault and aggravated battery for pointing a loaded gun at a woman's head and pistol whiping her in June 2016. He represented himself, then walked out as the judge waived his right to be present. At sentencing he challenged the proceedings claiming maritime constitutional law and common law immunity while signing as Christiano of the Ariel Dynasty. Prosecutor said he was found competent after mental evaluations, and the victim favored maximum prison time, calling for Maier’s confinement. Maier refused to acknowledge the judge, insisted he was not the defendant, and demanded removal of his leg shackles.
