Firefighter sues city over police use of force in Lawrence
Lawrence firefighter Miguel Armenta and attorney Jerry Levy filed a civil lawsuit October 20 2014 accusing the Lawrence Police Department of excessive and negligent force after an April 19 2014 VFW hall incident ended with Armenta arrested and a broken arm. Witnesses allege an officer bashed a man’s head against a squad car and beat him, while police say no one was beaten and officers acted to keep the peace. The suit targets the city and could cost nearly a quarter million dollars.
