KU professor learns Poland is freer than expected during five month visit
Kansas University political science professor Clifford Ketzel and his wife spent five months in Poland as visiting professors at the University of Warsaw. They found a country with more freedom than anticipated, with open discussion, bold press, and strong Solidarity influence. They noted long lines for food, rationing for items, and a populace able to joke about hardship as Poland undergoes rapid change.

AG challenges legality of Pepsi stamp pay off
Kansas Attorney General Robert T. Stephan filed a civil suit to determine if the states trading stamp act covers Pepsi Challenge Double Pay-off promotions. He argues the plan offers multiple non distributor prizes and violates the act while cash prizes or the distributor's own products are permitted. He seeks a court order to halt the promotion if the act applies.
