Five and Dime era vending chaos inspires intimate theater
The Percolator in Lawrence hosts Orange Mouse Theatricals anew with Come Back to the Five and Dime Jimmy Dean Jimmy Dean. The compact 600 square foot space becomes a cluttered 1970s five and dime in a claustrophobic, immersive experience. Directors Cynthia Evans and Andy Brown push for an engaged audience, challenging norms as the production casts a transgender Joanne for the first time in the role. They aim to spark discussions on sexuality, gender and inclusion while revisiting themes of aging and unfulfilled dreams.
