KU enrollments dip as economy cited for first day declines
First day KU enrollment fell by 166 students with the School of Journalism down 72 and the School of Business down 64. Executive Vice Chancellor Ed Meyen linked the declines to enrollment controls in oversubscribed programs, while Engineering dean Carl Locke noted a drop around 10 percent, partly due to economy and waning demand for engineers. The KU Medical Center bios campuses posted a 2,686 total, up 45 from last year with freshman and graduate gains, and Liberal Arts and Sciences rose by 26 with total graduate enrollment up 37.
