Hurricane Cleo shifted northward sparing Jamaica from a direct hit though high tides affected the north coast. Master Perry Reservoir recreation plan unveiled Thursday

The Corps of Engineers will present a master recreation plan for Perry Reservoir at 7 30 p m in Valley Falls High School auditorium inviting the public. The plan covers access roads parking areas sanitary facilities water supply boat ramps and picnic areas with attendees allowed to voice views. Col Miles Wachendorf notes state and local officials will be considered in future development.

Subway Blast Wounds 23 in Manhattan Station

An 8:23 A.M. explosion in the electrical cable room at the 116th Street IRT station on Lenox Avenue injured at least 23 people. Passengers were overcome by heat and panic as trains stalled and smoke filled the station during the morning rush.
