Firefighters responded to an apartment complex on Lawrence Avenue near 6th Street shortly before noon on Thursday after a report of smoke from a roof following a lightning strike. Crews evacuated residents. the blaze appeared under control by 12:05 p.m. Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical did not provide further details.
