Bonds, zoning disputes cloud Berry site plans in Douglas County
Firms win 30 million in Recovery Zone bonds as negotiations with the Schwada group on the property continue. Penny Tucker appeals to Berry development while neighbors push for down zoning and contend lawsuits will delay progress beyond a year. Dave Ross says talks have stalled as residents urge reduced industrial use and tree removals raise tensions.

Deer breaks window during sale display at Weaver's
A deer broke a store window at Weaver's after seeing a sale banner, then fled nine blocks to 800 block of Alabama Street. Rich Garrett found the deer bleeding from a shoulder with a broken antler in his yard. Officers called KDWP for help, but the animal escaped before arrival. Police noted tranquilizing deer is not typical, and pursuits were avoided as the animal appeared unlikely to survive. Weaver's vice president called it the strangest window-break case yet.
