Spot Dies After Rattler Attack Protecting Owner
A 14 year old dog named Spot belonging to the James Vestal Sr family near Stull died Friday after leaping on a timber rattler to shield his mistress Mrs. Vestal. Spot was bitten twice while killing the snake and died due to poison and age. The Vestal family plans to get another dog but not with Spot's name, honoring his loyalty. Rattlesnakes are common in the area with another seven rattle snake found nearby last year.

Weekend rash of thefts hits city. multiple burglaries reported

About 35 Lawrence men returned with honors from a two week summer Army Reserve camp at Ft Carlson Colorado.
