Retrial ordered after juror improperly uses smartphone
A former federal inmate and cross country truck driver Ralph E. Corey 52 was convicted in June on five counts including attempted rape kidnapping and sexual battery from a February 2000 abduction of a 16 year old Ottawa girl. A juror admitted accessing information about the case on a smartphone during the trial prompting a mistrial July 16. Corey will receive a new trial in October after the defense sought time to review newly tested forensic evidence from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
