Brownback campaign defends tax cuts amid Kansas budget woes
Christie praised Kansas progress while Brownback and allies defend aggressive personal income tax cuts, claiming to have added about 55,000 private sector jobs since January 2011. A nonpartisan budget forecast predicts a $238 million shortfall by July 2016 and credit downgrades. Christie cites Sebelius as a past Kansas governor and says voters will demand hard choices from Brownback. Brownback labels his opponent an Obama Democrat and argues voters lack full truth.

Independent voter argues Christie backs Brownback harmfully
Charlie Gilbert of Overland Park criticizes Christie for backing Brownback while Roy Everitt of Kansas City supports him, saying the pension fix moved ahead. Woman pleads not guilty to aggravated battery in Lawrence
A 22 year old Lawrence woman Keshia Falcon pleaded not guilty to aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after an Aug 5 disturbance. She allegedly hit Sherry Averitt on the head with a brandy bottle and stabbed her in the arm during a home invasion in the 2500 block of Redbud Lane. Averitt, 38, testified she suffered a one inch stab wound and a heavy bump to the head with subsequent nausea and headache. The bottle did not break, making the stabbing weapon unclear. Falcon faces trial November 10 and remains jailed on a 10000 dollar bond.

Westar faces FERC challenge over ROE on transmission
Kansas regulators and Westar Energy clash over the firm’s return on equity on transmission costs. The KCC seeks a drop from 11.3 to 9.37 percent, arguing low rates justify lower returns, while Westar resists. If the FERC hypothesis rules otherwise, about $15.8 million in annual revenue could shift, with growth expected.
