London Police Keep Deadly Force Policy After Menezes Killing
London Metropolitan Police review of Operation Kratos after the killing of Jean Charles de Menezes yields one or two small changes while maintaining the strategy. The force offered 26 950 to Menezes family but said this does not bar future claims and denied a 1 million payout. Scotland Yard reportedly foiled a planned al Qaeda nerve gas attack on Parliament. Home Secretary Charles Clarke voiced full confidence in Sir Ian Blair and the Met, amid investigations challenged by leaked documents and the Independent Police Complaints Commission inquiry. The threat level was reportedly lowered from critical to severe general with no imminent attack intelligence.
