Quantrill Raiders Sacked Lawrence and Toured Franklin County
In 1863 Quantrill and his band entered Lawrence and burned much of the city, killing about 150. A Franklin County family, the Anthonys, faced the raid near their cabin south of Lawrence. Quantrill taught school at Stanton, later led guerrilla raids, and died in 1865 in Louisville after Confederate service and a fatal wound.
