Heavy rainfall in Lawrence flooded an underpass when pumps failed, filling with water from 4 a.m. to 6 a.m. Thursday. Surface water closed part of a highway north of the city with a barricade directing traffic around six inches of standing water. The district softball title was delayed to Friday at Municipal Park with Gallagher Motors versus Paola Cubs, depending on rain. Lawrence postmaster replacement plans remained unsettled as officials noted an acting postmaster may serve until a permanent appointee is chosen after qualifying exams.
