Bound Brook New Jersey August 21 federal agents scanned the Watchung mountains for the racketeer Louis Lepke Buchalter but returned empty handed. Bridgewater township residents reported six carloads of FBI agents canvassing houses while police said a tip suggested Lepke might be in the area. Authorities declined to discuss the search and other tips placed Rock Hill near Princeton under scrutiny.
At Camp Whitside Ft. Riley Kansas on August 21 thousands of civilians toured the encampment for a general inspection of National Guard units. Lawrence companies paraded with infantry and a 114th Cavalry horse show as visitors toured the camp and lunch was served in mess halls. Guardsmen set up machine guns for demonstrations and a trophy contest by Adjutant General’s forces looms, while Gov Ratner reviewed regiments and maneuvers prepare for bivouacs and night engagements with air force cooperation.

Vandalia Ohio August 21 Rudy Etchen 15 year old Wichita Kansas defending junior champion held a high score in the opening event of the 40th annual grand American trapshooting meet. Fienup 14 year old St Louis School boy led sub junior class with 98 of 100. Veterans title went to John Peterson 75 of Randall Ireland with 96 of 100. Other top scores listed include Romig 93 Matthews 92 and Gettin question.
