Rubber dam installation begins at Bowersock Dam in Lawrence
Workers started placing a large inflatable rubber dam atop the Bowersock Dam on the Kansas River as part of a 25 million project by Bowersock Mills and Power Co to build a new hydroelectric plant on the north bank in downtown Lawrence. The device will raise dam height, allow upstream water pooling, and eliminate the need for manual plywood floodgate adjustments, aiding the city’s water treatment plant and potentially enabling power production by October.
