Theft of silver Dodge Ram valued at 11000 reported in Lawrence
A 67 year old Lawrence man reported Tuesday the theft of a silver Dodge Ram pickup from the 1500 block of West Eighth Terrace about 9 am. The truck was valued at 11000. A separate accident report notes a 23 year old Topeka woman was treated and released after her car spun out on a wet road near Lawrence while hitting a wall.

Pratt man on stand in rape trial at KU dorm
A Pratt man accused of raping a Kansas University student in GSP Hall testified in his defense on Wednesday. He denies the March 2008 assault, claiming any contact was consensual and that the woman was fully clothed when he left. Prosecutors say she was unconscious during the encounter. Earlier witnesses described finding the woman naked as he fled. Closing arguments set for 9 a.m. today in Douglas County District Court.

Memorial services for Mary Ione Newman 91 of Lawrence will be held at Riverside Cemetery Arkansas City. She died August 15 2009 at Presbyterian Manor. She and her husband owned Central States Manufacturing Co in Arkansas City. Survived by two daughters one son seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Services follow a 11 a.m. gathering after the 10 a.m. service at Riverside Cemetery with memorials to Heart of America Hospice.

Hugh Marvin Ridgway Graveside Rites Planned in Baytown
Hugh Marvin Ridgway 82 of Baytown Texas died Saturday August 15 2009 after a battle with lung cancer. Graveside services are set for 10 a.m. Friday at Oak Hill Cemetery with a prior funeral at St John’s United Methodist Church. He was born September 19 1926 in Spokane Washington and was a 1944 Liberty Memorial High School graduate. He earned a business administration degree from Washburn University and served in the U S Army Air Corps in Japan 1945 1946. He retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Co in 1986 after 38 years. He was a long time Mason Shriner Telephone Pioneers and Pasadena Strawberry Square Dancers and a lifelong Methodist. He was preceded in death by his first wife Ruth Maxine House in 1968 and survived by wife Juanita Ridgway as well as a daughter Gail Brower two sons Hugh M Jr and Ron three grandchildren and a brother. Memorials may be sent to Shriner Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
