Used books haunt McGraw-Hill in a pulp story suit
McGraw-Hill sues Guaranteed Destruction Inc. and others in Newark claiming a $12 million book diversion scheme that secretly moved unsold new or damaged textbooks to the campus trade. The suit names Emposimato of Guaranteed Destruction and links to Follett and Barnes & Noble distributors. Publishers say four percent of printed units are destroyed to protect inventory.

Kmart reports second quarter 1995 earnings and store count
Kmart Corp reports continuing operation net income of 23 million or 5 cents a share for the second quarter of 1995. This compares to 90 million or 19 cents in 1994. A 77 million loss from discontinued operations due to selling Borders Group and OfficeMax stock leaves the quarter with a 54 million net loss or 12 cents a share versus 94 million earnings or 20 cents in the prior year. The company notes it operates a distribution center in Lawrence and runs 2,234 Kmart stores plus 172 Builders Square outlets and 144 international stores.
