Fourth Polio Case Reported in County
The fourth polio case in Douglas County was reported yesterday by the health department. Bonnie Sic ley, 18, of 1116 Conn. St., a telephone operator, became ill Sunday and was diagnosed as polio. She is at Lawrence Memorial Hospital with weakness in one leg and no paralysis. Dwain Sichley, her husband, works at Sunflower Ordnance Works. The couple has a 10 month old baby, Mike Clem. Their 14 year old son, also named Mike Clem, has been a polio patient at KU Medical Center and has returned home to 1621 Vermont St. He will stay in bed for two weeks. Rosalie Lawler, 8, of Baldwin, previously was listed as a polio case with no paralysis. Dr. MacIntyre noted non paralytic cases are hard to diagnose. Mrs. June Cade of 2020 N. W. St. remains paralyzed from a prior polio attack.
