Old grape vines prove profit with patient care
For a week the Journal-World publisher delivered grapes to customers by phone orders, showing the old vines can still yield well. The author recalls buying a homestead on Vermont Street, where neglect gave way to cultivation, yielding at least twenty five bushels from the established vines. Irrigated rows produced larger fruit than dry areas, and despite low grape prices, per acre receipts may exceed many crops, with easier handling than berries.
