Landlord appeals ruling over housing denial case in Kansas
A landlord ordered to pay more than $110000 for denying housing to an unmarried interracial couple files an appeal claiming an unfair trial. Rex Youngquist argues a criminal record was hidden from the jury and that religious bias influenced juror selection in District Court last year. Max Kautsch of the Human Relations Commission contends the criminal record was irrelevant and that religion was a central issue in the case. A related note: PLAY hires planners led by Treanor Architects to assess Lawrence area's recreational needs, with a $63000 study funded by city, county, school district, and chamber of commerce.
