Lawrence district to gain Medicaid funds for student services
The Lawrence school board approved contracting with the Southeast Kansas Education Service Center to handle Medicaid billing for students with disabilities. The 20 percent fee prompted questions from board members though staff said collection agencies often take up to half. The district expects Medicaid to cover 30-40 percent of eligible students, with more than 400 students potentially involved, and will have legal counsel negotiate terms before proceeding.
