Russia proposes five neutrals for UN Korea peace group
At the United Nations the Soviet Union urged a Korean peace conference include five neutrals along with six fighting nations. The proposed neutrals include the United States Britain France Russia India Poland Sweden Burma North Korea and South Korea. U.S. Delegate Lodge condemned the plan as a sleazy maneuver designed to let Communists dominate the talks. Vishinsky warned no solution without China and North Korea. He said the conference should be broad and political, seating Red China at the UN.

Wichita Census Shows Population of 193 000
Assessor Ira C. Watson told the state Board of Agriculture that Sedgwick County records list 193 000 residents in Wichita and 262 000 in the county based on this year's count. He believes the tally was only about 90 percent complete by July 15, suggesting Wichita near 212 000 and the county near 281 000, but the board will not accept estimates.

Full-Time Building On K.U. Fieldhouse Slated for October
Construction of the Kansas University fieldhouse, a 16 500 seat arena doubling as an armory, is slated to begin this October with Charles Bennett Construction of Topeka as general contractor. Gunman Robs Long Island Bank Holds Manager as Shield
A gunman seized bank manager Eric Gronwall on his Floral Park lawn and forced entry to a Franklin National Bank branch. He escorted Gronwall in his car to the vault, escaped with an estimated 165000 to 200000, and abandoned Gronwall's car in Queens after dumping him near Bellerose.
