KU efficiency study flags 12 areas for cost savings

County targets past-due taxes to collect personal property

Douglas County launches a collection program using a Tonganoxie law firm to pursue unpaid personal property taxes totaling about 2.6 million dollars across 2,071 bills. The effort targets boats, RVs, mobile homes, and some business equipment, not real estate, with letters to individuals and businesses and several collection options.

KU Medical Center wins $6 million NIH grant for Alzheimer's program

KU Medical Center officials announced a five year 6 million dollar grant from NIH to its Alzheimer's Disease Center making KU one of 29 institutions honored by NIH. Dr Russell Swerdlow noted the funds will support research on Alzheimer’s, its millions of affected patients and caregivers, and aim to enroll more participants in studies. He stressed the disease reshapes minds and reality and that early symptoms appear at younger ages as research advances.
