The Imagination Library system now covers 112 local programs in all 105 Kansas counties with over 52,000 enrolled children and more than 3.8 million books distributed since 2005. Douglas County's chapter, started by Dara Allgeier in Lawrence in 2017, grew with support from the United Way, Dollywood Foundation, and local volunteers.

Fire in south Lawrence basement extinguished by crews
Emergency responders fought a basement fire at 2614 Belle Crest Drive in Lawrence on Sunday morning. Police broke a side window to access the garage. Crews remained on scene about an hour with no injuries reported and investigators probing the cause.
